Living in Botswana’s metropolis allows you to realize a few of your dreams. You focus on your career, set goals and maybe once or twice ease your mind on leisure activities.
However, with this bubble we live in, we have become unaccountable to the society at large, in such being part of the reason why humanity culture (botho) isn’t practiced as much it was in a romantic pre-colonial time.
This is what brought together a joint collaboration with Levdin Marketing Consultancy and Nayang Association. Two Youth run organisations creating waves of change in each of their respective fields. This collaboration birthed The Soul Food Event.
According to event co-founder Babui Nyepetsi, she and her partner Simba Sibanda were moved by the tragic accident of the students in Matsha. Noticing that these students’ families are fairly impoverished, they contacted Nayang Association founder Kagiso Madibana on her perspective of how to assist. Kagiso rather created an opportunity for them to meet the families create a personal bond. Moved by the socio-economic landscape, Levdin consultancy moved into the events arena, creating The Soul Food Event.
Using the city slicker’s love for entertainment and good food, The Sole Food will host a variety of performances, including Mophato Dance Theatre, BonaLife Choir and Poet Kagiso. Using the fundraising route, The Soul Food event is not based solely at fundraising, but also welcomes food and clothing donations that will go to families of the affected students in Matsha. Their aim is to make P20 000.00 for the families, including perishables and clothing.
Make your way to the event at Avani Gaborone Hotel & Casino on April 7th at 18.00pm, with your donations ready. There is also an opportunity for us to head out with the organizers to meet and engage with people who will be donating to (note: photos will not be taken while meeting families).
